Quite a few weeks after I had started getting serious with Flight Sim., I obtained some English magazines called "PC Pilot".
I was amazed with both the content and the advertising. Although I had found numerous sites on the web relating to "Flight
Simming", the magazine indicated, to me, a far greater "following/degree of interest" in this activity.
There was a lot of advertising relating to "hardware" devices. This was my current prime interest and, indeed, seemed to
follow to a large extent, a large number of web site contents. However, I was not aware of the quantity of "software"
add ons that was available. This seemed to include add on aircraft, scenery, sound and so on. I could then see, software
had a large following and provided a (somewhat) easy way to go. Microsoft "Flight Sim. 2004 (FS9) and FSx seemed to be the
core of these various add ons.
Never the less, there was an obvious apparent interest in hardware add ons as well.
A CD of some of the above mentioned add ons was included with each magazine. Some were freeware, but others were of obvious
commercial endeavour.
Commercial interest is a way of life. Advertisers in the above mentioned magazine, magazines in general, and many web
sites I had visited, are all there to make a dollar. Indeed, their survival (they will argue) depends on that dollar!
I feel I am starting to get "carried away" with these thoughts, but I may as well continue! We (somewhat) expect to pay for
our hobbies. My current thoughts are I am not too sure just how far I will persue this interest. I am dabbling to an extent!
Consequently, I do not wish to rush in and purchase hundreds of dollars worth of "add ons". Others, are on limited budgets,
and simply cannot afford too much expense for their hobby.
So, currently I think that I will persue, mainly hardware "add ons". Though certain software is needed to achieve this end.
I will continue to develop and build what hardware I require, using what free (if available) software I need.
I will try and make available, via this web site, the results of my endeavours and give details of others who are offering
free (or minimal cost) material (soft or hard ware).
