This major east west section of highway forms part of the southern route between the eastern states and
West Australia. It is dual lane sealed, but its width and surace condition varies from section to section.
A long section east of Caiguna was being upgraded in late 2005.
Note. In the south west of W.A., in general, roadside parking is only signed when it's on your left
side. Not sure why, but guess to stop one crossing to the other side of the road against oncoming traffic. This means
that parking spots on the opposite side of the highway, to which we travelled, may be missed in these notes.
Note. CDMA phone coverage is next to nil when crossing the Nullabour.
Note. Water is naturally scarce in this section. What is available can, in general, only be used to re-fill
containers rather than fill tanks.
Another note .. there are really plenty of potential overnight camp spots across the Nullabour .. lots of unexplored
tracks off into the bush. Also, most signed parking spots/rest areas seem to have additional tracks, often extensive,
at their rear.

12.4 km (722.9 km) Eucla .. on top of escapement, thus good views south over Southern Ocean. Roadhouse, motel, caravan park
($15 pvpn, free washing machines) plus police ambulance etc. all on southern side of highway. Found gas refill
($3 per kilo) and fuel reasonably priced. Reported to be the only privately owned road house on Nullabour.
